I'd just like to see where and how far each car goes so I can know how to get around. Like, from Los Prados, I don't know how to get to Las Colinas Mall or to La Sirena.

Unless she means Los Prados near Los Salados in which case you'd take an M to the ZP for Colinas Mall or an M and F to the pols

{I edited it a bit with capitals and spaces, but have no idea what she meant by "pols".}

I believe she "meant" POLA / La Sirena as the "F" car goes there.

The "A" car goes pass La Sirena downtown.

or to (La Sirena. (Also known as Pola))

PS:

The "A" car also goes pass Las Colinas Mall

The "C" car will get you a block or so from Las Colinas Mall

haha, stupid I Pod, thanks HB!

I did mean the POLA. The A does go to Colinas - but taking the M to the A is tedious and you have to cross that horrible Rotonda intersection.

Taxi?

We went twenty minutes in a taxi and it cost us 130 pesos... A carrito is 20. I am sure the Santiageros have phone numbers for the taxis

When I was living in Santo Domingo many years ago they used to be red and blue colored on the front edge of the roof, the blue working on paired days and the red on unpaired days.
Metro SA used to run buses across the capital, their most popular route "Ruta cinco" all the way from Herreras on Av. 27 Feb. to santo Dom. Este and back to the terminal in Herreras crossing Ciudad Colonial then heading on Av. Bolivar and Sarazota.

My teens years.
Long, long time ago.

most carros publicos used to be Austin and Morris of British manufacture by the time.
Some years later Peugeot became more popular, my father was Peugeot mechanic specialist.

I'm confused! it's says Los Prados in the clasificados and in the map, right where Jacagua Mall is. Now I'm thinking it's a little too far up, and I don't know if it's a good area.

Yes the name is Los prados, is a good area but the surrounding areas are not that good, just have in mind that you'll have to pass thru Los Ciruelitos, Camboya and Los Salados to get there.

Ah ok, and since I don't have a car I'll have to walk through there then....hmmm, well I found a house there for 6500, 3 bedrooms. I'll have to see if it's worth it, maybe if there is a decent store nearby that I can survive from.

Hold on a minute. I thought Camboya was on the south side of town by Pekin, Yapur Dumit and Circunvalacion? And Ciruelitos is between Av. Imbert and Sadhala. It is bad? I never knew.

On my map it shows Camboya in the north, below Los Prados, these other places are not on the map! Hmm, it's hard to get to places without knowing where everthing is at. Ah well, the DR is confusing anyways

Racer, Camboya is one of the head aches for newbie taxi drivers. the thing is that we have two Camboyas in Santiago; Camboya Marilopez, the one you are referring to and Camboya Ciruelitos.
Camboya is located right behind Obras publicas building ( driving license office) Camboya is a nick name as the real name of this neighborhood is Ensanchez Caonabo, when people strike over there it looks like the past war in Cambodia....

Yes Ciruelitos is a place where should no hangout by your self.

Ciruelitos nick name, real name; Ensanche Gregorio Luperon.

Man, JJ I will take your word for it. I was in Buenos Aires once and I was like "Whoa Doggy! This place is bad." But I thought Nibaje was even worse. I walked down the hill, took a look around, walked right back up the hill. (You know, the hill to Fortaleza San Luis.)

los ciruelitos have been on fire for the past three weeks. the main avenue is unpassable most afternoons because of all the protests!!!

but on the other side - los reyes - is not so bad if you don't stray off the main avenue to the left where the apartments are.
