Interested in Baseball? or in Dominican culture? This Saturday (Feb 26 4 pm) there is a discussion of the Dominican Success in Major League Baseball: At What Cost? at the Meeting Place in Puerto Plata. With the participation of a representative of Major League Baseball Association AND with the participation of Nelson Liriano former Major League baseball player who was with the Toronto Blue Jays (among other teams) in the 90s. Originally from Puerto Plata he has returned here and is active in coaching youth baseball leagues. As anyone who has had even a brief encounter with the Dominican Republic knows, baseball and the DR are inseparable. The game has come to influence the
entire culture of a country. Question is where it stands today and its effects (good? bad?) on young players who aspire to the Major Leagues. The discussion will be followed by a film-club presentation of the movie Sugar about the experiences of a young Dominican who is drafted for a Major League career and encounters the culture of "middle America" and life in the Big Leagues. For more info email info@MeetingPlacePuertoPlata.com or Meeting Place Puerto Plata, English books

(The Meeting Place is non-profit, volunteer resource center that aims to bridge the cultural gaps between the Dominican and the non-Dominican cultures)
