Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein, describes the factors that lead them to become the richest country in the world. Free trade (check), incentives for foreign investors (check), low taxes (not checked, yet); but of greater interest, at least for the Dominican case, is what the topic turns to after 3:35 minutes:

<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" width="400" height="264" ><param name="flashvars" value="webhost=fora.tv&clipid=11224&cliptype=highlight" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="movie" value="http://fora.tv/embedded_player" /><embed flashvars="webhost=fora.tv&clipid=11224&cliptype=highlight" src="http://fora.tv/embedded_player" width="400" height="264" allowScriptAccess="always" allowFullScreen="true" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed></object>

And they don't even border a collapsed country. This last topic is of paramount importance!

What are you suggesting? That the DR open its borders to the wealthy from Haiti?? Or that we close the borders. I would agree on that, and a highly restrictive immigration policy...Out, Out all of you!! (That don't have money and breeding and couth and aren't nice people)....

???

I found the film short interesting but not sure it would be applicable to the DR because of location, culture and traditional mind set ............your feelings on this ?

Tightening of the border. The wealthy of Haiti are too limited in numbers, by Dominican standards, to pose much of a threat, or advantages, to the DR.

The only people that are not economically solvent or of entrepreneurial spirit that should not be denied entry, are those with visas and an official work permit, tourists that can prove economic solvency and significant economic interests/property in their country of origin, and students that have been accepted in a Dominican university and can prove such.

Everyone else will simply cause more problems than solutions that are unnecessary and avoidable.

Location is actually one of the advantages the country has due to being strategic.

Culture and the traditional mindset can be influenced and molded with the proper incentives were put in place, but most importantly a strengthing of the institutions.
