I took a friend of mine to the airport yesterday. She had a flight to DR.

As we were waiting for time to pass by since we were there early, we saw a Dominican couple who obviously were in NY on vacation.

Seems like the lady wore the pants in this relationship. She was constantly bad mouthing him and saying that she was hungry and that he should get her something this instant. She was speaking to him as though he was her child. I have seen this plenty of times. She was very good looking as well. He did not look like a pushover. He just put his head down and came back with some food. She took the food and threw it at him saying she was not in the mood for what he bought her. Go figure!!!!

They had two children with them. It was sad seeing them react to their parents behavior.

My question is, is this type of behavior (women) typical in DR? What would make a man take this kind of abuse from their mate?:ermm:

She sounds like my mother-in-law....impossible to please. Several like that in her family, my son swears it's something in the female genes on the Dominican side of the family [naturally, he exempts the males]. She has 5 sons, and 4 of them are at her beck and call, exactly like that husband in the airport. My husband is the exemption to the rule, but it's easier for him because he doesn't have to deal with her on a daily basis....

I don't think it's a "Dominican" thing. I have only ever dealt with one Woman in the D.R. who was prone to "Queen Bee hissy fits" and if you ask me it's got a lot more to do with the fact that she was a spoiled rotten glamourpuss from one of "those" families. I know two of her Cousins and they aren't anything like that and in fact one of them confided to me that she's just loco like that.

I got tired of hitting the "eject" button. She's in Spain with a Husband and a kid now and I'm hoping she's calmed down since then. Beautiful and charming Woman, just a little off balance.

Nope, more likely she is a US Citizen and he is a native Dominican (NON US Citizen) putting up for that bull**** until he gets his Permanent Visa. Because no Dominican who respect himself will allow that kind of behavior from his wife and specially not in public!

This only works if he is undoubtedly in love with the woman. And this is what many Dominican women would want IF they could find a man who is kind and faithful enough to do this to. Unfortunately they cant. I know this as a fact.

Or this dude considers himself "lucky" to have such a woman and she does the gossiping hen thing with her friends and then the woman you see is the woman who does that. Now, when they get back to DR and he goes and smashes out his Multiple girlfriends she wont be the wiser.

Another issue is she is higher in her career than he is so she feels compelled to make the decisions.

Anyway, BX I saw this with a friend I had in La Vega. She would berate her husband and she had 3 children with him and all she ever did was insult him. She kicked him out and she was ridiculing him because he was crying and whatnot. You know me, as George Clinton would say in Atomic Dog: "Why must I be like that, why must I chase the cat? Nothing but the dog in me. Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay!" She tried that stuff with me and I had to shut it down. Put her back on the bus to La Vega with the busted suitcase she came with.

Yea, I can believe this theory also.

It's never good to stereotype but one of the first things I noticed when I visited DR outside of the AI world, was the shouting voices of Dominican women coming from the neighboring homes LOL I asked my boyfriend if they were fighting and he said, no it's normal here for women to shout at their families. He jokingly said that's how they know they are loved. Every now and then I mockingly shout at him and we both laugh about it.

I have 2 teenaged sons who wouldn't dare raise their voices at me and I don't have to shout to get my point accross because I have a scary evil eye face I make at them and they know I mean business. Then there's my size 11 feet they know will be kicken their tails... Maybe if Dominican women had bigger feet they wouldn't need to shout. My boyfriend is scared of of his mother and sisters. He wouldn't dare raise his voice to a woman. I've heard his sisters tear a strip off him many times. They're grooming him for me.. LOL

I used to have an extremely good looking friend (not dominican), she is not the prettiest women in the world, but she has a BANGING body and she knows how to showcase it :)

She treats her boyfriend just like you described BB. I swear sometimes I was embarrassed for the guys, even having to defend them sometimes.

I lost a lot of respect for Men after knowing her :)

Loca Dominicana

This phenomenon is not that uncommon. There is a variety a Dominican woman who is prone to hysteria especially towards husbands. I experienced it personally and I know of many other Dominican men who have experienced it as well.

My theory: is that there is a lot of undiagnosed and untreated bi-polar / emotional problems in the DR. - especially the women.

The men put up with it for two reasons. First, Dominican men - in the context of relationships - simply don't take women that seriously. They see them not necessarily as adult equals but as more child like. Hence, the bad behaviour is excused.

Secondly, Every Dominican guy has many easy options for attractive women/mistress/girlfriends/ etc. on the side. For every minute of abuse that he takes from his wife he knows that he will soon get at least two minutes of exquisite pleasure from his novia when he sees her.

So, the Dominican man can put up with alot. His American counterpart is far more offended by such behavior because he has been trained to take women seriously instead of understanding that in general they are highly emotionally volatile creatures. Also, in general, the American counterparts options are not as easily procured. So, there being less of an outlet, when the woman reveals herself to be a "headcase", or "psycho" - he is out of there quickly.

Do you really think your teenage aged sons are intimidated by you ???

More like they indulge you because they recognize that from time to time you get hysterical like most women.

LMAO Spoken like a true Dominican man :cheeky::cheeky:

She mostly dated Latinos though and I have seen her being her Diva-self with Dominican men too.

She is now happily married and bossing around a Puerto Rican guy.

Yea,I agree with you on the red part. I do also think there are alot of undiagnosed emotional, psychological, and mental issues in a percentage of the population. Some of it may be congenital but I think the massive poverty fosters many of these anti-social behaviors.

The part in green I can see that, but the final sentence I think is wrong. If the American guy is patient he can foresee if she has personality issues(as I do frequently). What happens is these dudes fall victim to the AZB diagnosis where they meet one woman and she is the finest woman he has ever seen and he turns off his "Sanometer(Meter of sanity)" and just does whatever he thinks he needs to do to be with this woman.

a. I'm for this lady either has her citizenship and he doesn't,
b. her parents are rich and he works for the family,
c. her looks et al make up for whatever she is lacking in other areas :) :) :) or this is just an odd ball case.

I ll buy that for sure. Especially A., B., & C.

That was exceptionally bad behavior and something one might see when the family is together but not something generally seen in public, especially here in the DR although I will say I've seen some especially bad mannered hispanics in the States that would give the Jerry Springer show a run for their money.
