Trip to Cabarete

Hey guys, Couple of guys and myself are staying in cabarete and wanted to know your opinion on our plans in DR on March 17th.

Here are some possible adventurous activities we wouldnt mind doing. Can you tell me which ones are stupid/boring and which ones are definites?

White Water Rafting ($80)
Mount Isabel de Torres($7) ::::: Ocean World ($55)
Damajaqua Cascades Waterfalls
Ziplining ($84) W/F/Su
Dune Buggy ($42)

Here are some of clubs we were interested in...
Mangu
Lighthouse at Ocean world
Beach paradise club
(i know they are all in puerto plata, but i dont know of any other high traffic/fun ones)

QUESTIONS:

Can someone recommend some high traffic bars/clubs/lounges fit for couple of guys in SOSUA, PUERTO PLATA and CABARETE. No we don't want pay girls, just places with girls (tourists or local) for dancing. Just dont want a club thats dead and has 4 people dancing in it.

Can you recommend some restaurants in Sosua, Puerto Plata and Cabarete? Is Maraja restaurant in cabarete any good?

Also, A lot of these activities are crazy expensive, is there a local agency that offers this for cheaper than iguana mama?

Ocean World will cost you a lot more then $55. Zip line, try Monkey Jungle. 3/17 go to Jose O'shey, St. Pat day.Dune buggy thru cane fields usually cost more. When you get here, walk around and check out tours. British guy near Jose's is usually pretty good. Tour prices are flexible.

For your excursions, I highly recommend you do them with Iguana Mama. They may be a bit more expensive than other tour companies, but they have an excellent reputation. Do NOT buy any tours from anyone offering them to you on the beach even if they carry an ID from the tour company.

No clubs in Sosua if you're not interested in paying for company. In Cabarete, Nikki Beach Bar, Bambu, and Onno's (the last two you'll find tourists like yourself and some local girls for hire too). There's always a nice crowd at Voy Voy late Monday evenings for karaoke.

I haven't eaten at Maraja, but my friends tell me that the food is excellent. There are many restaurants on the beach in Cabarete. For the most part, they're all pretty good. My favorites are Lax, Miro's, and Pomodoro's. People love Papi's (seafood).

Off the beach, try Los Locos D'Enfrente in El Callejon de la Loma (excellent barbecue), Bliss (next door, expensive), Otra Cosa (very expensive but fantastic, across the street from Velero Resort.

How long are you staying? You're planning a lot of activities if it were just for a week. Just wondering.

Why do you say that? I went there with my son in January. I got the local price but he paid $55. Yes, there were additional costs: lunch and transportation. We paid $5 each from Sosua on the Ocean World bus, probably more, but don't know the price. I don't call that "a lot more", however.

I am not sure it is the best tour for young guys looking for fun and action. I think the Iguana Mama tours would be more what they are after. My son went on the mountain bike excursion with Iguana Mama and said it was outstanding. He will certainly do it again next trip.

I second the below recommendation to use Iguana Mama.

When you go to Ocean World, if your young you usually want to do everything there. Not counting transportation and food. The $55 only gets you in the door. It's fun. But if your young, it's not fun to watch everyone else doing things.That's why I said it will cost more then $55.

Does it cost money if all you want to do is go to the ocean world casino and lighthouse? Is the 55 dollar fee for zoo part of ocean world or is it also including if you want to go to the casino and stuff?

Also, we were thinking of going to Ocean world for gambling but very much so for the partying as well. Not really for the zoo. Is it worth it?

I think we want to have atleast one night where we can do a "classy" club/lounge thats normally packed.

And the rest of the time bar hop/club hop and enjoy the grittier/rougher crowd of sosua.

We definitely want to go to sosua and see the party life there. Any SPECIFIC places that are the most fun?

A quick recap of the help i need is...

Which clubs/bars/lounges in all three cities are the best? and the most "happening"?

I need one restaurant with great views and great food in Cabarete, Sosua AND puerto plata.

(I appreciate the advice from everyone above, i'll definitely note down the restaurants already mentioned and check them out)

We are there for 5 days. So im thinking of doing White water rafting, and Dune buggy and maybe some Snorkeling if time permits. The rest of the time is for drinking our ass off and recovering from it. :)

I would not recommend white water rafting given the amount of time you're staying. I did the trip. A tour bus picked us up in Cabarete and stopped to pick up people at a bunch of all inclusive resorts in puerto plata. It took us 4 hours to get to the location for white water rafting. 2 hours of rafting (good rapids but you don't do much paddling - the guide does it) plus lunch etc. and four plus hours back (we had to stop at a cigar making tourist trap). Left at 6:30 am and got back to our hotel around 5:00 or 6:00 pm

I would recommend the waterfall/rapelling trips through Iguana Mama. Beautiful scenery, challenging and a little scary if you're afraid of heights.

If you go to the disco at Ocean World, plan on a taxi there and back. There is a casino in Cabarete that's easy to get to.
