Some friends and I are meeting another friend who lives in western DR in Santo Domingo (she isn't that familiar with the city) and we are looking for the best place to stay on a Saturday night in April. We'd love to stay in a place with a pool where you can get drinks AND be in or at least easily walkable to the Zona Colonia. We'd like to stay some place fairly lively but also like the the unique experience of a boutique hotel and in a mid-level price range.

Or if we stayed in a boutique hotel in Zona Colonial, is there a place where we could go to hang out by a pool or a beachside bar?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!

Hotel in SD

The Hotel El Conde de Penalba is located in the heart of the Colonial Zone and is priced around $80.00US per night. It does not have a pool however there is a large outdoor cafe' in Columbus Square directly across from the oldest church in the new world. It is a nice old colonial building and the rooms are large. Ask for a room with a balcony when you make the reservation. At the cafe' you have a large choice for drinks and food. There phone # is 809-688-7121 or Condepenalba.com Condepenalba.com Condepenalba.com Condepenalba.com Condepenalba.com.

I think that the Melia is the closest hotel with a pool near the Zona...Dona Elvira has a sort of pool... a little pool inside a restored colonial but it is not really a pina colada sort of place

Melia has a casino.. you can walk to the Zona.. or take a $6 cab ride...

The Palacio has a pool and meets your location and price requirement.

Nepolitano

The Nepolitano has a pool, and about 85 a night. little closer to the zone than the Melia.

You are correct to use quotes

Gulp! I hate to admit it, but I believe the Discovery Hotel near the west entrance of the Conde has a "Pool" on the roof of their building.

You are correct to use quotes because that pool is very small, about the size of a large hot tub in fact but it is a "pool" and it is on el Conde.

Try the Hostal Nicolas de Ovando or El Hotel Franc?s, they both belong to the French hotel chain Sofitel. I understand they are pricey but they are both smack in the middle of the Colonial zone. The Hostal has a pool w/bar and clients from the French Hotel (walking distance) have access to the pool too.
