Two more movie studios for the Dominican.

Well, after Pinewood Indomina Studios made their public release for their new state of the art movie studio in the DR, Warner Bros and Sony pictures representatives from both major studios landed in SD last week and are actively carrying out surveys of the DR for theirs as well...

Dominican President Leonel Fernandez had visited with the executives for both studios during a visit to the US, where he told them that the DR was more than open to host studios with ample facilities from the state.

The fact that several actors of high caliber like Michelle Rodriguez, Zoe Saldana and others of Dominican descent, have made their impression in the studios and moviegoers have not escaped the executives eyes and ears.

Vin Diesel was the first major Hollywood figure to push the local government to open up for the studios and films in the country. He was very vocal about supporting the local film producers and actors to dream big and aim for big projects in the country.

AXT is setting up shop as well in the Dominican Republic, in order to offer the backdrop services required by all major studios in the industry today.

The Juan Dolio area has been described as the best suited for hosting the type of large studios and facilities required by such companies. The willingness of the local government to work in creating the perfect conditions for the studios to set up in the country are best described as limitless, and fully cooperative.

The running joke around Juan Dolio's community is that the name soon to be label for the site is "Doliowood", as the acronym for Tinseltown came about.

The Dominican Republic has been host to several major movies in the past, where films like the Godfather saw scenes being filmed in important places of the country.

All that remains is to know which major movie studio to set shop in the Dominican Republic's Doliowood, will come out with the first major film for audiences around the world!

Pinewood Indomina Studios

DOMINICAN REPUBLIC

We have entered into a long term agreement with the Indomina Group for the operation of new film and television studios to be built in the Dominican Republic. ‘Pinewood Indomina Studios’ is expected to commence initial operations in 2012.

The state of the art film and television production facilities will initially comprise 5,000 sq m of sound stage space along with 15,000 sq m of associated production support facilities. The 35 acre site will include an 8 acre water effects facility including a 75m x 75m exterior water tank with natural ocean horizons, blue screen capabilities and a fully equipped diving and marine department. When completed it will be the only tank of its type and size in the region.

International | Pinewood Studios Group

I guess you seem aware that the also run other studios around the world as well as Pinewood Studios, Shepperton Studios and Teddington Studios at he core of their control.

The Vicini group will OWN the place and have interests in the revenues, but the actual operations and magic will always be at the hand of the Pinewood group 100%.

That's how Hollywood and Bollywood got their foothold in the industry first. Most studios sit in land owned by others and the majority of interests sit in the hands of the investors. But again, the magic is the studio operators to make or fail!

Skip to 0.21 secs and hear about Vin's Dominican roots from the horse's mouth himself!!

LOL!!

Truly the "Godfather" of the "Cine Dominicano". His hard work convincing the politicians to adopt a film industry for the DR and open the doors to movie studies here, was the precursor of what's to become that industry in the country.

So many movies in history have been filmed in the DR without studios, now can you imagine with studios? I think that I see DR becoming a major film industry hub for itsperfect geographical location. This news fits as ring to finger since the DR is blooming with so much talent that it's just k8zy.

Stars at home in the Caribbean premiere

Pinewood Shepperton studios, known worldwide for films super agent 007 and the most recent Oscar winners "Slumdog Millionaire" (2008) and "The King Speech" (2010), have decided to settle in the Dominican Republic.

The UK's Pinewood Shepperton has decided to take advantage of the facilities that a recent law in the Dominican Republic offers the film industry, and has begun in the eastern Caribbean country the work of a giant installation that is intended to not only access to markets in the Caribbean, but also to Central and South America.
A GREAT INVESTMENT WITH MANY EXPECTATIONS.
An investment of $ 50 million and the partnership with one of the most important economic Dominican groups created a new firm,
Pinewood Indomina Group
, and gives the key renowned British studies what they hope will 'bite' a part of the 3.1 billion of dollars spent on filmed entertainment estimated by the nearly 600 million Latin Americans in 2014.
That not inconsiderable sum represents an increase of 5.2 percent from the 2,400 million dollars spent in the region in that line in 2009.
The location of the studies have been chosen strategically as well as to be larger facilities, complete and modern in design and functionality of the entire region.

LONG TERM BUSINESS.
Cinematograph installations will be located in the resort of Juan Dolio, about 45 minutes from Santo Domingo with its scenes of the Colonial Zone of the capital, home to most Dominican businesses based on
film techniques.
"Pinewood Shepperton merely add in their sights to Latin America, as it has done recently in Toronto (Canada), Berlin (Germany) and Iskandar (Malaysia), which is the same: greater access strategically to important markets of North America, Europe and Southeast Asia, "said the chief executive of the British firm, Ivan Dunleavy.
The manager revealed this strategy during the opening of the construction of Pinewood in Dominican territory, the first phase consists of four sound stages covering 7,344 meters square and ancillary support facilities, totaling 20,027 meters square in area of more than eleven hectares.
The British firm for the project was associated with
Indomina Group
, a subsidiary of Grupo Vicini, the second largest producer of sugar cane derivatives of the country, with investments also in the tourism, food and energy.
"We are now pleased to join
Indomina Group
to establish a presence here in the Dominican Republic, acting as a hub for access to the Caribbean, Central and South America. It is increasingly influential market and growing," reveals Dunleavy.
Studies expect also that expenditure on sales of tickets to the cinema in Latin America increase of 1,400 million in 2009 to 1,900 million dollars in 2014, representing an annual growth of 5.3 percent.

The most attractive "bait" on the new Film Act Dominican Republic offers is a tax credit of up to 25% for those who invest in the production of cinematographic and audiovisual works filmed in this nation.
Favorable legislation.
In addition, the legislation states that the film studios or filmings established in the country enjoy a hundred percent exemption from tax on income earned in its operation over the next fifteen years.
It also provides that for a period of five years may be imported duty free capital goods required for the installation of the studies.
The arrival of the foreign Film industry on Caribbean soil has been well received by Dominican producers and directors who believe this would significantly reduce production costs of films and create dozens of jobs in a country where unemployment exceeds 25 percent.
"We are extremely proud that Pinewood has chosen this country to do these studies," said Alfonso Rodriguez, one of the most active local filmmakers.
The filmmaker says that English studies contribute to the expansion of Dominican film, which will benefit from lower costs and technology of the highest quality.

According to the vision of the filmmakers, the incentive of 25 percent tax credit for businesses that support the Dominican film industry will make the budget savings line available from around 6,000 million pesos (about $ 157 million / 108 million euros) a year for their productions.
Dominican President Leonel Fernandez, highlighted the benefits of this initiative during the opening ceremony of the work and felt that if it can associate with tourism, one of the country's economic engines, with the development of film and television production succeed "to attract celebrities to the Dominican Republic."
These famous, according to the ruling Caribbean, "invest in the acquisition of a second home in the country and" will become international broadcasters the benefits of the Dominican Republic. "
The British ambassador to the Dominican Republic, Steven Fisher, sees the initiative as a step in the English strategy to regain lost ground as regards investments in Latin America.
"The trade relations passing through the right path. However, we are still far from achieving the level of investment and trade that we should see between the world economy and the sixth largest economy and stable in the Caribbean region," the diplomat reasons.

Pichardo,

Brother, I love ya, but 3 Al Rescate is probably the worse movie I've ever seen. Everybody else in the theater thought the same.

Not much more than an hour an a half advertisement for Pizzarelli, Tropigas, Orange...... I really expected better.

I can't believe I sat through it twice. (long story, trying to win some points)

For an adult or older kid yes! But for the targeted audience it did the fun part.
For the first 3D animation in the DR it went beyond the highest expectations for such caliber/experience present here.

You have to forget the plot, cheesy jokes and pretty much advertisement feel like style and look at the technology involved and the graphics/flow of the film.

Samuel L. Jackson Teams With Indomina for Live-Action "Afro Samurai"

exclusive-character-bio-iafro-samuraii-20060717025038162640wproportioned_a_p_194.jpg

Afro Samurai, the cult hit manga and anime in which Samuel L. Jackson voices the main character, is making a bound to the big-screen, it was announced as Comic-Con 2011 took off in San Diego.

The Indomina Group, a U.S. and Dominican Republic-based producer and distributor of film, TV and trans-media content, is teaming with Jackson and Gonzo Studios, the company behind the Emmy-winning anime, to produce what would be a live-action adaptation.

Like its title suggest, Afro Samurai blends hip-hop and soul with Japanese elements. Set in a future and feudal Japan, the story follows a man seeking revenge for his father’s decapitation at the hands of Justice, a power-seeking man dressed as a cowboy.

The manga, by Takeshi Okazaki, was originally published in the late 1990s. An anime series made by Gonzo aired on Spike TV in the 2000s, and a 2009 TV movie special won a primetime Emmy, becoming the first anime to be
nominated and to win the TV award. RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan was behind the show’s music.

According to Indomnia, the plan is to attach a writer and director this summer and complete casting by the end of the yea in order to be able to shoot at Pinewood Indomina Studios in the Dominican Republic in 2012.

Indomnia is best known as a boutique distributor and next releases Griff the Invisible, starring True Blood's Ryan Kwanten, in select markets. It wants to make Afro Samurai its first feature film.
