Residents of Sosua should all be given heroes' medals and be praised as perfect example of citizens that care and know how important our trees are.

Tuesday afternoon, 22 March, at 4 PM over 100 trees were planted in the newly created Park Botanical Garden Kurl Wellish. This park is located at the main road to Cabarete, right across from the CMC hospital. Volunteers from the neighborhood association Camino del Sol, under the direction of the Environment Committee and the Chief of the Environmental Office of Sos?a and Cabarete, Mr. Jose Sosa and the representatives of the ADSS Association planted the young trees in the park soil.

The also present director of the Environmental Office Serge A. Rivera Lopez with the assistance of some soldiers, helped to plant the trees. Previously, some large trees were cut back so that the small trees can grow well. The new planting consists of many tree species such as Ceiba, Caoba, Roble, Mango, Cajuil and Cedro. It may be that after a year some trees must be re-planted (such as the rapidly growing Cedro) so that the other trees get enough light. Now they are planted close together to benefit the vertical growth. The plan is that besides the park there will also be created a jogging track.

Hey thanks for providing this useful information...

The only intention of this post was to show Sosua and its residents as a model town,
people that are concerned about our ecology and are making a difference.

Hopefully this kind of attitude from sosua spreads to other areas of the country like a disease.

Anyways, I see this is your first post and just became a member.

Welcome to DR1 and the Dominican Republic, all that Dominicans ask of you is to respect our sovereingty, our people our Spanish, Afrikan and Taino herritage and respect our trees, don't go around cutting them up for fuel and you won't have a problem.
