bumping this up. We will be traveling to the North Coast near Puerto Plata (more specifically: Tubagua) in mid-May and would love to hear what others have to recommend.

I hear Cabarete is great to kick off a touristy adventure. I believe Iguana Mama is the company that does a lot of activities in that area.

depends on what you want to do, and if you have transport....la boca just outside Cabarete is a nice place to spend an afternoon, you might want to try El Choro in Jamoa spend a day at the river, or if you are into a real adventure, try getting to El Salto de Los Bueyes just outside of Gasper Hernandez, but you need a 4x4 for that one, Caves of Cabarete, Playa Encuentro, or you could spend a day driving east to Rio San Juan, Playa Grande, and enjoy some nice beaches...Playa Magenta in Juagua is a nice stop as well.....lots to do within an hour drive of Cabarete...in the evenings just outside of Cabarete is a baseball diamond where you can catch a game under the lights as well

Puerto Plata is not far and if you're up for an adventure there are the Damajagua Falls, 27 waterfalls you jump from through the forest. Also a cable car ride to Mount Isabel de Torres with an excellent view of the city from 743 meters up.

Horseback riding, Monkey Jungle, Go-carts, snorkeling, cable car, many tours, ocean world, casinos, kite surfing, shopping, chilling at the beautiful beach. 27 falls that was just mentioned is AWESOME!! You've got to be pretty fit though! Go out into the villages and see what there is that is not on the main roads, just make sure you go with someone who knows the area. Visit Transformation House and see what people are doing to help in the Dominican Republic. Seeing the reality of life here can change your life.
