Anyone interested in sharing a 20' container? I am shipping sometime toward middle/late May 2011, and will not be able to fill the container, it will be half empty. If you have stuff to ship, let me know and we can share the costs. We should save sunstantially on shipping! The container will be dropped off at my place on Long Island. You are responsible for your customs duties.

Have you investigated your shipping options??

Have you investigated all of your shipping options?

It would be nice to know some of the details as how you intend to go about this matter.

Did a shipping company suggest this idea about sharing to you? Are you shipping the container by yourself? If a shipping company suggested sharing to you then they are telling you to do what they should be doing; PJT would be looking for another company if this is so.

If your are doing the shipping, and it is your name on the shipping documents, this is just a friendly word of advice if you have less than half of a container; it is best to ship using the services of a local shipping company specializing in service from NY to S.D. as your costs of shipping and aggravation will be kept at a minimum. They will consolidate your goods with those of others in a shipping container, do the shipping, documentation, and customs clearance for you, they are responsible for the shipment, it is their name on the paperwork.

If you do the shipping by yourself you are assuming the responsibility for all the goods within the container, yours and those sharing it with you. If the person(s) sharing with you is/are smuggling goods, you are responsible, you take the heat. You will be held responsible for all the logistics, documentation, shipping costs, insurance, customs duties, storage, and other fees as the ocean container can only have one legal shipper, you. You pay it all. Then, you have the dirty work of collecting what is owed you from those sharing the shipment.

Good Luck and Regards,

PJT

If you aren't yet committed to this idea of shipping your own container, why not contact Fama Shipping. They do consolidation of containers and door to door service. No need to worry about dealing with customs. Just be sure to ask about adding insurance. Ask for Fatima, she'll look after you.
