I was amazed at the speeds in Florida. They were about 4 times what i get here with a fairly basic Claro plan. (I download at 170-195 kbps. In Florida it was up in the 2 Mbps range, I think...)

Yes, expensive too....I was paying about 2500 pesos a month for supposedly the best/unlimited service. I learned that if I was using my Magic Jack I had to close everything else or I'd get dropped. Ditto more than one website open at a time. For one 4-week period I absolutely could not read my Comcast e-mail, it simply would not load. Aggravated the **** out of me.

Seems to be a response to Tricom which announced on April 11, speed increases for the same price and dropped all lower plans under 1mb.

Thanks.

@mido - that is experience limited to you. when I enter my home and office numbers it says migration in progress showing my old and new (future) speeds.

I just noticed this a few days ago and thought maybe they were playing with the system or something because I had seen increases in speed temporarily before. This is good news, thanks Claro.

We called Claro yesterday. The speed increase will be phased in. They have to bring in glass to doit. They ran glass to Jarabacoa a few weeks ago...the service was HORRID during the installation period...and now say the hookup will be between now and August.

So don't expect to see it overnight everywhere.

I went to the local Claro office and they said... systema problema.. many times.

They also said that they were upgrading to fibre optics..... yah - sure..... that will take years. but the disruption will take longer !!

It stinks.... its expensive..... i'm not there now so its not the big problem it was

We shall see what we shall see.........
