Currently, I am languishing in rural Ontario.... Great Lakes.

I bought gas here today..... $1.38/liter
4L = 1 US Gallon..... $5.52 Cdn which is close enough to parity w/ US counterpart these days.

Last friday's RD purchase
208DRP per US gallon @ 37.5 exchange ......$5.47US

That surprised me.....RD prices are not so bad.

US prices on my 9 hour drive to these backwoods
$3.95 in PA......... $4.05 in Buffalo

FYI

DR prices went down last night, FYI.

Not much, but some. Enough to lessen the howling of the masses for a week.

But remember the DR does not buy much West Texas Intermediate or Brent. They buy Venezuela sh!tty crude at like $68 a barrel...and then tax the crappo out of the end-product to pay for their absurd expenditures...

HB

(No idea what they are paying for the Venezuelan oil but it is way, way below WTI or Brent)

I know its poor gas..... my "Check Engine " light always comes on .
When I check it..... poor gas is the warning.

Canada has notoriously high gas prices (all taxes)... for RD to have comparable prices w/ an inferior product is curious.

My point was that I was surprised that the prices - if not the product- were virtually identical.

I would have guessed otherwise...... I hadn't seen the Cdn prices since December

As far as expats, only the Americans complain about the high gas prices here in the DR. Canadians are used to getting bent over at the pumps!

I do not think the gasoline in the DR is bad. I have run a small motorcycle for 6 years without any engine repairs - many km.

High gas prices encourage economy.

Europe prices much higher - but it has reduced imports as people drive more economical cars.

It's good DR has a deal with Venezuela ; reduces costs for everyone.

I don't think the gas is bad either.... but it is of a different quality ( as HB says ) than NoAmerican and perhaps European standards.

The reason my Jeep warns me is because of the catalytic converter.... its a NoAmerican production car.
Cars built for "Export" have no such equipment and will offer no warning.

I agree... the car will run trouble free for years

I bought a "code reader" in the US for about $30..... little gadget plugs into your car and reads the codes.

I know I shouldn't worry too much but I just couldn't get the warning light out of my head....

What if the warning is "Transmission will fall out in 25 miles" ?

Inquiring minds need to know what the warning is :))

For amateurs....its like horseshoes...... close counts..

XE: (USD/DOP) US Dollar to Dominican Peso Rate

Conversion is in fact 37.8 by the above chart

I do this in my head at the pump.... thus, round numbers

Lo siento...... have a nice day
