Tourist card Dollars versus Euros

Why is it at least at the Santiago airport the a tourist card costs $10 USD OR 10 Euros? Meaning tourists who pay in dollars get a substantial discount.

See what happens if you offer them 10 Mexican Pesos, or any other currency that is less than the dollar.

Last time I saw in Punta Cana, in January, they were asking for 10 dollars or 5 Euros. The Euro-paying tourists got a better deal!

This is most likely under-the-table money, they do a lot of it at that airport. I know a person who confessed to me he earned side-money in the amount of hundreds of thousands of pesos in a year he was working the tourist card booth, back 2-3 years ago. Of course that was just a drop in the bucket, the bosses "earned" much more.

back in the day when i travelled from the UK they charged 10 dollars or 10 pounds, if one did not have dollars. now, that was a crappy deal.

Which is 4 dollars... oh well guess you can't get that smoothie.
But the guy collecting the money can double his salary by doing this for 6 people/day. You wouldn't be naive to think he doesn't substitute US$ for the Euros he collects?
