Casa de Campo here we come!

Starting November 16 we?ll begin service to the world class resort city of La Romana, on the Dominican Republic?s southeast coast. We?ll fly twice weekly from JFK aboard the A320 and be the only airline to offer nonstop service between New York and La Romana International Airport (LRM).

La Romana is located about 70 miles east of Santo Domingo and is renowned for its azure waters, perfect beaches, championship golf courses and luxury resort developments (including its original and most famous, Casa de Campo).

This little bit of paradise will be our fifth destination in the Dominican Republic after Santiago, Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata and Punta Cana. We?re now the island nation?s largest airline with more seats and more flights than any other. This summer we?ll offer more than 25 daily departures from the island.

Flight Schedule:
Depart JFK 0836 Arrive LRM 1331
Depart LRM 1426 Arrive JFK 1726

While this is good news, this comes as kind of a surprise. AA (the only commercial US airline that serves LRM ) downgraded service by ending LRM-SJU and turning LRM-MIA into a regional jet. Casa de Campo serves a niche market for the super rich, some of whom fly into LRM in their own planes. The traffic on this flight will be almost exclusively leisure travel, and most people who stay at the La Romana Bayahibe resorts now book as a package with tourist transfer to and from either PUJ airport or SDQ airport. On the other hand, tourists from the New York area staying in the Bayahibe hotels can now go on this flight, which can free up more available seats on PUJ and SDQ flights and would result in cheaper transfer costs. Perhaps JetBlue got some sort of subsidy or incentive to add a flight to LRM instead of increasing service to PUJ, which can use an extra JetBlue flight per day.

Jet Blue is on fire in the DR!
This summer
SDQ-JFK x 7 flights per day! (will likely be reduced back to 5 or so after the summer)
SDQ-SJU x 3 daily
SDQ-BOS x 1 daily
SDQ-MCO x 1 daily
SDQ-FLL x 1 daily

STI-JFK x 7 flights per day! (again, will be reduced after summer is over)

POP-JFK x 2 daily
PUJ-JFK x 11 weekly

Jetblue has now completely taken over AA as the DR's dominant carrier, and rightfully so.
