First time to DR...questions. Help?

what's good people.
I will be staying in Santo Domingo, It's my first time ever in DR & will be there for only 5 nights :(..
I would like to know how much do things cost out there so I can get an idea how much $$ to take..
Beer? Food? clubs? Taxi? from washington ave where all the hotels b at to the aiport and to boca chica?
Throw in whatever you think I need to know about this city and stuff you recommend.
OOOOOh also, how's the weather like in the month of early September?

Bring lots of money. Taxis are about RD$150 a trip around town. You can ask at your hotel for the current prices to the Airport or Boca Chica (Lord, why Boca Chica? It is the pits!) and work out a better price with most taxi drivers. There are so many clubs along the main avenues, I will wait for the denizens of Santo Domingo to chime in on the Where to go part.

As for the weather? Hey, it's the tropics and the peak of the hurricane season, so maybe some fireworks from heaven and maybe not. Not to worry, it will be fun no matter what.

Totally agree. Best to avoid Boca Chica, it's where I spent my first trip many years ago, and I almost didn't come back because of it.

If you're looking for a beach vacation with lots of willing sex partners (or "romance traveling," if you're a woman), consider Sosua/Cabarete. If you're going with family, the beaches of Punta Cana are great.

Santo Domingo is HUGE. There's plenty of options, but it kind of depends on what you want to do. You mentioned clubs. You talking lounges, Miami-style spots, what?

- Taxi from airport to the malecon (ave george washington) is between $30-$40us or between 1200rd-1500rd
- dont exchange money at the airport! you will get 32-1. if you feel the need to get your hands on some dominican pesos right away just get money from the ATMs on the right next to the ice cream shop when walking to the exit of the airport. Make change at the hotel, or at a bank.

It is not cheap so bring the same as what you would expect to burn in any of your native big cities. 5 days is more than enough in the cap. Go to the casinos to hang out and drink free for a few hours before you go to party. Screw boca, dump and gets worse by the day. Minimum cab cost for you will be 180 these days, airport or boca as mentioned above. Check the girls aren't guys, infact don't get that drunk.

why avoid boca chica? what wrong with it? I will be staying in SD so I want nightclubs where young gilrs my age will be at (not prostitutes)..like reggaeton, hip-hop clubs. where would that be?

sun, maybe sex, girls, music, and i dont want american food if im in another country i would like to eat the food made there. so i want just dominican food.

Tons of clubs on Ave venezuela
there are clubs/bars/lounges scattered around la zona colonial.

Do you speak spanish? are you going solo? are you going clubing with your dominican family members?
all those factors are important factors to consider when you choose where to go. A first timer gringo, who is rolling solo, who cant speak spanish might not want to go to Ave Venezuela. That same person probably isnt going to be able to get the college girls that hang out at the bars around la zona colonial.

yes i speak spanish, it's my first language and i'm going with my counsin. i'm 25 hes 23.

Stay in the GAZCUE it`s the middle of all & close to malecon,zona colonial & there`s small good cheap hotels, i always stay in HOTEL RIPARBELLA for $25.00 if you negociate, it has cable,internet wifi, small refrigerator, a/c, clean service & verry importante it`s safer then most areas & the walk from the hotel to malecon,zona colonial is aprox. like 10min.

If you want i can give you a taxi guy which i know & always pick`s me up when i travel to DR & charges me $20.00usd from the airport to GAZGUE.
