They are not cheap in the DR, period.

I order mine online and have them shipped via EPS.
Works great and I save a fortune over the DR prices.

In Santo Domingo I recently bought my new contacts in Centro Vision (unicentro plaza) including 2 optometric consults for 4400 pesos. This includes 6 pair of good quality contacts and storage solution. In holland I pay at least 100 euros for the same

if you know the brand and the specifications of your lenses, then order them in the States as Robert specified. You will save a fortune. Just a piece of advice for people doing this. Do get an eye-examination every 6 months or so to make sure those lenses are still the right ones for you... Believe me as an optometrist and contact lens specialist, I know this is a necessity.

So I can either get someplace like 1-800-contact lens to ship them to DR or is it possible I can, with my current prescription in hand bring a yrs supply in with me? or six mos at a time.. is that doable. thanks LB

sure why not... you just look at the last bunch you got and order the same brand with the same specifications. Use the net as prices may differ by as much as 50%, and never order more than a 6 month supply. The cheapest companies frequently also send lenses with an expiration date close to the 6 months. As far as here goes, I would advice to keep your supply of lenses in the fridge and to take them out the day before you need them.

Ordering lenses online is a great thing, but please keep in mind you really do need a check-up every 6 months or so. You can wear lenses problem-free for years, but once the probs start it is very possible they will last a long time. Prevention is better.

in a fridge? i never heard that before. i keep mine in a drawer. and wear 24/7 for weeks. so far so good, seems like my eyes are made to wear contacts. doctor once a year. i hate doctors and one has to do a dentist, a ginecologo, a yearly checkup. too much!

Your justification for every six mos is what? I have been wearing glasses/contacts for the past 45 yrs. I rarely ever get an exam less than two yrs apart and this time its been 5 yrs. I am about at the end of my contacts stash. No problem seeing with them. When I order from 800 contact lens I have never had any with less than a two yr or so away minimum expiration date. In fact this last batch I bought in 2006 with the eye to going out cruising so I had a 5 yr supply.. the current pair I am wearing have a 6/2012 expiration date. That would be 6 yrs from date of purchase. Perhaps it is the company you purchase them from? LB

no problem there... it is only that once you hit a problem it is there for a long time. I suggest the fridge as the solution is not destined for the temps here. As soon as you see some white residue in the solution throw them out. And dv8, a ginecologo is somewhat different to an optometrist... about a yard apart...

LB.... as an optometrist I have to say that a contact lens is still a foreign body in your eye. As it sits in front of the conjunctiva and cornea it depletes these bodies from oxygen. With the newest lenses this is minimal but still existent... if there is an infection or bacteria your contact lens is the perfect medium to transfer this. You may not experience anything at the start, but the damage done might be huge, therefore a regular check-up is an absolute necessity.

I have done my masters on this, I was one of the top 10 contactlens specialists in Belgium, I worked for B&L as their specialist troubleshooter, I have fitted 90% of KLM stewardesses with contacts...

I know... the check-up might seem unnecessary... believe me it is not...

but, you know, not so often! i go once a year, last time 6 months ago in poland. all is fine. when i got conjutivitis i threw away the lenses, spent a week in glasses and later on put on brand new lenses.
my night and day's have expiry date of 2015, my doc in poland knows i am far away from home and i need a good supply.
i understand you, peter, but understand normal folks, we only visit a doctor when there is something wrong :)
i make few expections: eye dude, mouth dude and toto dude once a year. i kinda don't want to see more of them :)

I get mine from 1-800-contacts sent directly to me , takes about 10 days to get to Sosua, and I pay a couple hundred pesos to pick them up.
