Gays stage ?Caravan of pride? for their rights
Santo Domingo. - The gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community marched along the seaside avenue Malecon Sunday, to demand inclusion of their right to health, education, respect, dignity and to make their existence in Dominican society viable.
With bright colored balloons on vehicles symbolizing the freedom they demand, and with bombastic garments, the demonstrators began their ?Caravan of pride? parade from the Chat disco at 4 p.m., backing up traffics in some of the main avenues for blocks, stoking the curiosity of some citizens.
?We the homosexuals went out to express the pride that we feel for being what we are today, worthy and dignified human beings and liberated men and women, donned, as the heterosexuals, with values and talents,? said Leonardo Sanchez, a member of one of the 25 organizations in the parade.
