good to see the press isn't getting carried away like the english usually do
with constant reminders about how this time they can go "all the way".

That match was played in San Cristobal as will the second one. Not much of a match, one paper said 2-1. Lucky they did not draw Surinam. I once played there in a Concacaf Tournament and we got trounced 0-6 and 0-8...amazing place Paramaribo. If the world needed an enema, that is where they would start it. But the beer and ice cream were outstanding!!

And Dominicans are supposed to be famous for their optimism triumphing over experience! :)

Dominican Republic, USVI Win World Cup Qualifiers

The Dominican Republic and the U.S. Virgin Islands joined Bahamas in the first group stage of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying, winning their respective second-leg matches Sunday to complete aggregate victories in the preliminary round.

The Dominican Republic won for the second time in three days, getting a pair of goals from Inoel Navarro and a second goal in as many games from Jonathan Fana to topple Anguilla 4-0 in San Cistobal, Dominican Republic.

Jhoan Sanchez also scored to finish the 6-0 aggregate win for the Dominicans, which played both legs at home.

In Road Town on the island of Tortola, Reid Klopp scored for the second straight game to pace the U.S. Virgin Islands past the British Virgin Islands 2-1. The result completed a 4-1 aggregate victory, the first time the U.S. Virgin Islands have advance past the first stage in World Cup qualifying.

Dwayne Thomas put USVI ahead in the first minute and Klopp added his three minutes into second-half injury time to assure the victory.

The pair of wins over BVI comes after USVI had lost all five previous qualifiers by a combined 35-1, including a 10-0 loss to Grenada in 2008.

Bahamas won its preliminary round series on Saturday, winning 6-0 to complete a 10-0 aggregate win over Turks and Caicos Islands.

The three will advance to the World Cup qualifying draw on July 30 in Rio de Janeiro, where they will be drawn into one of six, four-team groups. The six group winners will join the United States, Mexico, Honduras, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Cuba in the semifinal round of qualifying.

There they will be divided into three, four-team groups from which two in each group will qualify for the final, or "hexagonal" round.
