Fellow DR1ers, I'm proud to announce the launch of a second book co-written with the late Ginnie Bedggood:
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1907498729/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=cocindomin-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=1907498729">Expat FAQs: Moving to and Living in the Dominican Republic</a><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=&l=as2&o=1&a=1907498729&camp=217145&creative=399373"
First of all a bit of background. This book was a major project that Ginnie and I undertook starting in about 2007. We put it to one side when the opportunity to write the Culture Smart Guide to the DR came our way. Once we had completed Culture Smart we went back to work on this book, which covers similar territory in parts but gives much more detail and practical advice.
In April 2010 our proposal was accepted by a UK publisher - Bookshaker/Summertime, which now plans a series of books about different countries under the "Expat FAQ" heading, following the "Who, What, When, Where, What and How" format that we devised.
Ginnie's unexpected passing in July last year coincided with the delivery of the final draft of the book to the publisher. The subsequent solo pre-publication process involved working with editors, tying up loose ends and updating some of the content to ensure it was as current as possible upon publication.
Expat FAQ – Moving to and Living in the Dominican Republic is a practical, detailed handbook for anyone who is considering a move to the DR, or to people who are already in the process of moving/settling in the country. It has comprehensive contact lists and covers all the possible issues a prospective expat might face, from the legal nitty-gritty to real-life situations, as well as the country’s cultural and historical context. It's aimed at retirees, professionals and people with a second home in the DR.
Several dr1ers provided us with invaluable help, support and advice. Many thanks to Robert for authorising this post, and to juanita, jrhartley, Matilda, Squat and mountainannie (who wrote a terrific foreword) among others. These DR1 forums were an excellent resource.
A heartfelt thank you to BushBaby for soldiering on and supporting me in the process through this difficult last year.
And to our dear, much-missed Lambada of course: the book is lovingly dedicated to her and Grahame and I plan to donate part of the royalties to a Foundation in her memory.
Expat FAQ: Moving to and Living in the Dominican Republic may be ordered from Amazon US, Canada and UK, Barnes & Noble and other online retailers.
