A couple of questions:
1) Why a transfer, when there are many alternatives?
2) Does your friend in La Vega have an account at BPD?
3) Why not use Western Union? or Xoom?

Transfers cost you and the recipient money.

Just asking, is all.

I've wired money from our bank in NJ to our bank in DR several times. Our bank charged $45, same fee whether you send $100 or $10,000. Our DR bank did not charge us to receive it. No problems, it was there within a couple of days.

Western Union, if it is for a person, not to fill an account that already exists, is instantaneous! That is why all the sankys and sankettes love it....and far cheaper then many other alternatives--but lots of exchange houses in NYC and Miami offer this service...

HB, just saying

I wire to ScotiaBank RD all the time... no fee to receive and its quick.

Wires come from US or Canada or where ever.
Costs to send the wire vary by the sending bank.

As has been pointed out before, less than $10,000 is ideal, but I have been over many times during house construction, etc.
Never a problem - touch wood
