Extremely cheap hotel in Santiago or surrounding area?

I have a very old friend that's going through a very rough patch, and I want to help him out by paying for a hotel room for a few days while things get moving again.

The hotel can be as basic as they come. What would be the cheapest hotel I can find in all of Santiago? It can't be a dangerous place... que no sea un lugar de mala muerte.

You cant beat the middle part of the Hotel Colonial.

As an alternative there is Alberto's Suites Aparta Hotel.

Those are the two nicest, cheapest hotels in a part of town that is not mala muerte. You might check out Hotel Ambar and see what it is like--on Estrella Sadhala past Ochoa.

Hotel Amber is close to twice as much as The Colonial with no differemce in rooms. The Colonials no thrills building only has ceiling fans but if aircon is a must HB is spot on with the middle building. I usually bring a Universal TV remote to the Colonial because they are often out of remotes.
