According to a news item in Diario Libre in late September there will be held a big Merengue Festival in Puerto Plata again. According to the press officer of the company Brugal (the Brugal Company is sponsoring the festival), Mr. ?ngel Duverg?, in the weekend of the festival at least 12 nationally known music bands will perform. In addition, local dance groups, music and drama groups will do a show. Traditionally, the festival will take place at the La Puntilla de Malec?n. That's the end of the promenade (Malec?n) of Puerto Plata opposite the fort of San Felipe. The entire festival will be broadcasted on the TV channel 'Canal 33 Super' and 'Megavisi?n' both in the Dominican Republic and the United States.
