Weekend getaway AI all inclusif recommendation needed near Santo Domingo.

A friend of mine is looking to do a weekend gateway in DR for the first time. She is looking for a beautiful place with a room with a Jacuzzi, food, transportation to and from The Santo Domingo airport. Anything else would be a plus. Friday to Sunday mid October. Not willing to spend hours driving.
She had a reservation made in Boca Chica she cancelled that after I told her that I never heard anything good on this forum about the place. Now I have to come up with something good and I?ve never been To DR. Help!

Weekend Get a way

Hi:

Where is she flying from and what does she want to do? In Santo Domingo there are many large hotels along the Malecon that offer upscale amneities, gambling etc...You are close to the Colonial Zone and sightseeing. If she wants a beach atmosphere consider flying into La Romana and stay at Casa de Compo. If you fly into Santo Domingo you would probably have to get a taxi to your destination. Good luck.

May I suggest that she checks out some of the resorts in Bayahibe which is close to La Romana. As far as transportation, she can take the Metro or Caribe tours if she is trying to save some bucks. I would not personally set foot or reccomend Boca Chica to my worst enemy. It's a dump. She can also check out the resorts in Punta Cana which is about 2 1/2 hours from the airport. Again, she would have to arrange her own transportation.

Maybe the Embassy suites hotel in Metro Country Club in Juan Dolio. They do airport pick ups and is only 20 minutes from Las Americas airport. All suite hotel, no jacuzzi in room but one in the pool. Quiet, reasonable food but is on a golf course not the beach. Hotel does transfers to beach which is 5 minutes away.

Neither Metro or Caribe tours go to Bayahibe. Bayahibe is very nice but further than they may want. Juan Dolio, Embassy suites is a good idea. AA crews stay there.

I've been hearing great thing about the "Malecon Center", in Sto. Dgo.
I believe the Hilton is part of the complex. No sure about AI, though.

I always liked the Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo. Located on the Malecon it has a beutiful pool and spa. Rooms are top notch, some with Jacuzzi. They serve the best breakfast buffet in the DR daily. Casino is the largest in Caribbean with a great bar that has a nightly show. The dancers are amazing. The restaurants are good, but the area has many great restaurants.

Steeve, she will be flying from Miami or Fort-Lauderdale to SDQ
I think she mainly wants to relax and get away from the everyday activities.
Thanks for all your inputs we will go over them and pick one. If any other suggestions please feel free

like...ehhh.... when was the last time you went to Jaragua?

First of all, the best breakfast buffet I find in Hilton, closely followed by Barcelo Lina. Also, the buffet at Clarion is extremely good value for money (a very good breakfast buffet comes free in the rate, as opposed to Hilton, Intercontinental, Melia, or Jaragua). Barcelo Lina also does lunch and dinner buffets and if you book via touroperator you can get half board or full board plan. The dinner buffet in Lina is excellent.

The night bar and dancers and show in Jaragua is no more. They have been doing huge renovations in the casino since early January after the US owner sold to Spaniards, and more than half the casino is closed off. The former "lounge" area with mini-theater is now high roller private area. Also the waitresses now wear orange jumpsuits instead of the former hot red-black uniforms. All in all, the Jaragua casino now has extremely claustrophobic feeling and just looks UGLY. Worts ambience now among casinos in SD.

Now, WHEN they re-open early next year it will be a blow. It will be again the hugest place in the DR and they will also open new big disco place in the area of former lounge/mini-theatre.
