Anyone have experience with a Volkwagon Amarok. Looking at the prices on Supercarros.com, they seem reasonable and online reviews are not bad. Any true life experiences?

looks nice apart from the fact that it's a pick-up. A concept which I fail to understand. Why have a utility vehicle that you can't keep stuff in?

Must be a city boy. There are many things that because of shape will not fit in an UV. For example, a fridge, a cloths dresser....etc. Then there are thinga that smell. leak...etc. Easier to wash a pickup.

Volkswagen are pretty reliable cars but very expensive to maintain here in DR. Take my word for it, I speak from experience.

That was my only reservation also. I know that Volkswagons have become more reliable but the cost of parts and finding a good mechanic are areas for concern for sure. I like the less busy interior though.

In the DR,first choice is always a Toyota.Next is Honda.
Honda may be a slightly better car/truck/SUV,but finding Toyota parts is easier, cheaper, and less expensive to repair, both the mechanical, and "Body Parts".

I curently own a 2007 Toyota RAV4, a 2003 Honda Civic, a 2001 Nissan Sentra, AND A 1993 Mercedes Benz 400E. I wish the Toyota had the power and comfort of the Mercedes and the easy parking of the Honda.

I don't know about Jarabacoa, but here in Santiago, there are many mechanic shops that cater strictly to VW's. As I said earlier I've had vw's in the past, so I know a few of them very well and they are very reliable as mechanics. Also the Amarok is not very common in the DR, but you will see a few on the streets of Santiago.

I wouldn't worry about finding replacement parts to keep the vehical running because you could find which ever part you would need within the country, however, vw parts are very pricey, so much so, that parts for a vw are just as expensive as those of BMW's and Mercedes. *

Sounds like you want a Toyota Avalon Bob, Friend of mine in Florida just bought one (limited Edition), while it is no Mercedes it sure is impressive for the bucks
