My wife who is "trying" to finish her last semester just had a coughing and burning eye day at the University with tear gas and gunfire greeting her this am as she attempted to attend class. Any info? strikes are normal, but are things worse than normal, or is this all "par for the course" at UASD.

Welcome to the biggest waste of money after the Metro. This is par for the course. The place is worse than worse and 99% of their student body thinks that because they are the UASD, they "deserve" to get a degree. It's a waste. Remember, the student body president has been there 21 years and has yet to finish 25% of the degree requirements.

you are kidding, right? 21 years? that redefines the term ?professional student?. he must be taking one of the really onerous studies, like how to become a cashier.

Scions of "the families" go to UASD for decades in which they chat up the girls in the cafeterias, throw rocks at the cops for 500 pesos a day during whoever's "spontaneous" riots, and run back into the anonymous zone to harrangue politics. When the girls go "yech!" at the oldie, he pays for a law degree and leaves.

You say your lawyer or doctor has a degree from UASD?

My wife has two hard earned degrees from UASD - Statistics and Math, and BA in education from UNPHU. UASD has always been a hotbed of socialist/cummunist...etc like many other universities. It was common for strikes and riots to close the whole univesrsity in the 70's and 80s.

The Constitution establishes that the UASD should get 5% of the national budget. Well, this year they didn't get it, and that's why UASD students are protesting. Also, the Constitution establishes that educaci?n should get 4% of GDP, and that's why you see all those yellow umbrellas. I understand that the rule of law has fallen into disfavor nowadays, just look what they did to Lybia and their prisoner of war.

Hey from barrio to books, the metro works well for us with door to door service. But clearly you are not alone with your feelings for the metro. Pretty sad however that it is nicer than any mass trans rail system (or 90%) in the US...very sad. And if my wife has any more classes cancelled she will be on the 21 year plan as well...jaja

Bias much! Certainly the UASD is not as organized as it could be but I know several reputable doctors now working in the US, and one in Canada that went to UASD and I know other professionals that are just that; very professional and good at their jobs that attended UASD. I also know a few PUCMM grads. Would you feel the same way about the Metro if it was in Santiago? I 'm not sure how they did this webrating but it has UASD way ahead of PUCMM.

The ratings are by the popularity of their websites, not their academic programs.
The aim of this website is to provide an approximate popularity ranking of world Universities and Colleges based upon the popularity of their websites. This is intended to help international students and academic staff to understand how popular a specific University/College is in a foreign country.

We do not claim - by any means - to rank organisations or their programs, by the quality of education or level of services provided. The 4icu.org University Web Ranking is not an academic ranking and should not be adopted as the main criteria for selecting an higher education organization where to study.

Ok, makes sense. My point being that the quality of the university doesn't reflect the quality of student. PUCMM cost more so those that have money, and live in Santiago are more likely to go to PUCMM. Those with less money are more likely to go to UASD. Unless you equate rich with intelligence. Hillbilly being a professor at PUCMM and being married to a professor at PUMCC is perhaps not without Bias.
