I have a Nokia pay as you go phone and intend getting a local sim card when I am in the DR. Where is the best place to get one - at the airport or in Sosua?

Any recommendations for which one to get (if there is a choice). I will phone the Uk and also make local calls and texts.

Hi,

Just wait till you are in Sosua and go to a local Orange store...

For a couple of hundreds pesos you have a chip...

We tried that but couldn't use it because it was locked --- ask in your country before you bring it to the DR - is it unlocked.

Good luck.

Claro, Orange and Viva are your options. Just make sure the phone supports 1900 MHz frequency. Most Viva dealers will also unlock the phone for you for free or for a small fee.
