How much time does 100mb of net time give you for general surfing, email etc on an iphone 4. If this is a tiny amount then how much is a reasonable amount, baring in mind it is not the primary internet tool, merely the tool used while away from the home.

Very little

The old iPhone iMax plan which provided 500mb for about a monthly rent of $4,500 pesos gave you at best an average of 16-18,000kb's a day of very limited use. Watching YouTube videos would eat up your 100mb so fast you wouldn't know it. A typical video 3 min. song could eat up 4,000kb's.
Fortunately Orange updated this plan for the same amount of monthly rent with unlimited web time. Orange charges $7 pesos per kb., so if you use 100mb without a plan you would be paying about $7,200 pesos.

I've spoken to Aftab and he has put me off the whole idea. I am still going to bring back a couple of ipads and iphones to sell on (so cheap in Europe) but I am not going to bother even going down that route. I'll bash away when in hotspots for now, and by the costs I am hearing about probably for some years yet.
Does anyone actually pay these surfing costs? they are terrible.

Wow, 4500 pesos a month. Does this include phone calls too, or just internet access?

3g sucks, too slow. I use wifi everywhere I go. I have it at my 2 homes, in my office. I do ok with wifi. I will never pay so much money for slow speed.
