It will be interesting to see how Pichardo spins this.

From today's Sosua News:

The administrator of the National Lottery is desperate because he has not enough resources to pay out the prizes. The lottery is set by the state to increase tax revenues. But now, somehow, somebody of the government took such large amount of the prize money that there is not enough left to pay the winners. The winners are, and that's understandable, very displeased. The government took more than one billion pesos from the pot and that's more than 70% of the invested money. The administrator now fears that the lottery is declining in popularity.

But he hopes that he can compensate the winners from the income of the next draw.

This is a good thing. The more the winners are not paid, the less people will spend on the lottery, this will free up capital to invest in the education of their children - the real lottery ticket! :)

Just confirming that lotteries are regressive taxes on the stupid.

My US Mega Millions one year season ticket expires in 10 days and has returned exactly zero.

It would have been easier to burn a one hundred dollar bill for the same result.

The DR lottery not being able to pay winners because so much money has been siphoned off is a story with a perfect symmetry.

This is how the DR works. What a country. :dead:

Not to change the topic, but I read recently that some statistician worked out the math in the UK, and you're more likely to DIE in the 30 minutes preceding the drawing of lotto numbers, than you are to actually win the same lotto.
