Vieira, thats the word for scallop.

Are you 100% on that? I know that's the dictionary translation but both Dominicans I've shown that word to have said "that must be what they call it in Spain, because I've never heard that word in my life". Most likely they've just never had a scallop in their lives.

I don't remember the exact phrase used, but last June my wife ordered what she thought was going to be "scallops" at Captain Cook's in P.C., and ended up getting veal scallopini instead. It was good.. but not what she expected. :)

I have heard them described as "lambi". I know it is not correct (different kind), but apparently a lot of Dominicans call them that

Lamb? is conch. Vieira is the correct translation but I'm sure it's not a well-known word, especially as scallops are not part of the local cuisine.
Shouldn't this be in Spanish 101?

Concise Oxford Spanish Dictionary ? 2009 Oxford University Press:
vieira sustantivo femenino (molusco) scallop;
(concha) scallop shell
