Is anyone familiar with airline policy regarding bringing of gifts for children. We will be flying delta from the US and wish to bring a suitcase of school supplies, baseball equipment and toys for local kids. normally we only stay for a week or two and have the room to bring these things but will be in the country for three weeks this trip and plan on hotel-hopping :) this time and may not have the extra space. just wondering if anyone is familiar with airline policies regarding baggage waivers for these items... thanks, ben

Canadian airline Westjet allows you to bring one extra free baggage if it is humanitarian. Westjet is awesome!

most likely not. other people would take advantage and bring toys and stuff, but to sell. if they did allow that in the past, im sure by now somebody took advantage of it so much and messed it up for everybody

The airlines won't give you ice in the winter, so maybe with the exception of Westjet the answer is a no for sure.

Hi:
First of all call your airline and find out. Every airline has its own set of policies. If they will not waive the fee than you have to find out how much the extra bag will cost. It could be as much as $100.00 additional depending on how many other bags you have. Is there a possiblility you could put your items in two carry on bags?

As of 1 Nov, Delta is charging for the first checked bag.

Fly AA, 1st checked bag per traveller up to 50 lbs. is still no extra charge.

~Same for Continental Airlines.....first bag free up to 50lbs....second bag up to 50 lbs is only $25dollars....so pack your cloths in a carry on suitcase and pack up two others full of goodies and pay $25.00 dollars...;)

"Waive" is not a word that is recognized by the Dominican government under any circumstances. Now, payoff, bribe and tip they work with those just fine.
