We have a major tour starting this weekend, and in our first-of-the-season tour prep I check and charge all the batteries. Knowing 2-3 are always bad, I went ahead and bought 4 new ones in anticipation.
Brought them home and got out my trusted friend, the high-tech digital 2/10/30/80 microprocessor-controlled charger/tester. Clamped it onto the first battery: F03 error, Open Cell. Hmmm. Not good. Second battery: F03. Third: ditto.
:dead:
Obviously, dead. So to Santiago we go in search of a decent high-tech charger. Ochoa, La Sirena, Bellon, several big auto parts stores, nothing but old school manual chargers and I want an auto charger/tester with a 2 amp. selection. And expensive! And I need one now!
So Alida called the store where we bought the batteries, yes, they have a charger they could lend us for a day. Great! I'll charge the batteries with it and have a guest bring down what I want. Off she went to get it, and this is what she brought back:
The knot is the positive wire...:cross-eye No ground.
Oh, well.
Off to La Vega to get a small, "inexpensive" 2/6 charger (RD$1800) until I can get a high-tech one shipped in...
Don't you just love Dominican ingenuity in tools? :classic:
