Hello, Anybody have a favorite beach for snorkeling (near Cabarete) which you can drive and dive; rather, drive to and snorkel?? Can you be a bit specific. I don't know the area that well yet. grawcias, tom

Playa Caleton just past Rio San Juan. Take the main highway east from Cabarete. It is about 60 Km from Cabarete. Very good fish dinner on the beach as well.

playa caleton is indeed good. You will see it on saturday. I heard the reef on playa sosua is quite decent as well.

Caleton is indeed clear and flat and a nice beach when there arent too many locals there :)
but the snorkelling isnt great...i certainly didnt see too many fish.

Sosua bay on the other hand is great. There's a really good reef only 50m out full of life!

with caleton you have to swim to the point on the left side of the beach. Sometimes the water there is too rough though.

The reef off Sosua beach is not too bad. A lot of it is dead Staghorn but its still pretty although minus the natural colors. Its large enough to be good for an afternoons swim. I have seen quite a few really nice yellowtail snapper and some undersize lobster. Lots of spiny urchins and quite a few lionfish. Be careful of small boat traffic that they do not run you over.
