Would appreciate any info on the following:
To introduce a cosmetic US made product into the Dominican market is it required to have such product registered with Registro Sanitario? Does the DR have such an institution?

You might check with either a Dominican Embassy in the US or an American embassy in the DR for contact info.

You will need the Registro sanitario permit from Salud Publica and if you do it yourself it will run around RD50k and 100k plus if you pay someone to do it. It will be likely more for a gringo. The time it takes to do it is from 3 to 6 months. I have a good friend who is in the process of doing it himself currently.

To import and commercialize a cosmetic product in the DR you must first obtain its sanitary registration from the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance's (SESPAS) National Office for Drugs and Pharmacies (DGDF), as per General Health Law No. 42-01 and Executive Decree No. 246-06.

You must first register the product's trademark in the Dominican Republic, in order to apply for its sanitary registration.

For more information on specific application requirements for both registrations, feel free to contact an attorney at Guzman Ariza's Santo Domingo office.
