Okay, I know there are a bazillion threads about bringing a car to DR. I know all the rules.
My question deals with the 'discount' on the customs fee.
Does a 'returning Dominican' pay less to customs than a 'foreigner in his first 6 months of residency'?
I understand the foreigner gets a 50% discount. How about the Dominican? He seems to think it's a bigger discount.
We're trying to figure out if it's better to bring in a car under my name or under my husband's. We're married a very long time, but DR doesn't know I exist, we never bothered to change his cedula in 1976. [We were married in NY]
That being said, would we be able to bring in two different cars at different times? I know married couples get one - but if they don't know we're married?? His legal address in DR is still his mother's house, not our house.
