SIM card/Chip in Santiago

I plan to stay in Santiago for a couple of days and wonder if anyone can tell me where I can buy a SIM card/chip for my unlocked phone and whether any provider is cheaper than other for calls within the DR and to the US. I will staying at the Hotel Colonial, and would prefer some place within walking distance. Also, do I need to take my passport to get the SIM card? Thanks.

In pretty much any Claro/Orange shop, although not every location will carry micro-sim, - there are a couple of large stores on Calle del Sol, not sure if those are within walking distance from your hotel. Yes, you'll need your passport.
