On the remote chance that there is another traveler who is interested in sharing a taxi from Santo Domingo airport to the center of the city, on December 11th (Caribe bus station is the more exact destination, for further travel to Puerto Plata), please get in touch. The plane arrival time to Santo Domingo is 1:59PM.
Otherwise, if you have taken a taxi recently, please share the current price.

Taxis in Santo Domingo, as well as the whole Dominican Republic, do not run by the meter. All serious companies have pretty much flat rates. Taxi fares in the Dominican Republic are fixed rates based on destination and are considerably higher than rates for public transportation.

SDQ to Caribe tours is about $30 USD these days. The rates are posted on a huge sign as you exit the arrivals area where you find the taxis.

A reasonable fare would be RD$800-RD$1000. ($20-$25). Unfortunately, you will not get this from the official taxi stand at the airport outside the arrivals hall. There's no sign with prices. You just go to the guy at the stand in front of all the taxis lined up and state your destination and if it's anywhere in Santo Domingo, you will be told $40 (or more, depending on how much of an easy mark you seem to be) but no less than that.

Take the elevator in the arrivals hall upstairs to the departures level and go outside. You will very quickly find an arriving taxi willing to take you into the city for 800 pesos. I do this every few months without problems.

Call any normal taxi company in the city like Apolo or Aero Taxi and they will quote you the price for the way back to the airport when you go back home. It will be 900-1000 pesos.

There is a "Voladoras" stop a few steps outside the of the airport building, just take a right turn and you'll find it at the first parking lot on your right...

The volaradora fares should be anything in between RD$ 80. / 120. Pesos , I guess... This is a popular public transport used by locals and airport employees...

And for stingy tourist also:eek:
