I'm looking for mineral spirits, what would these be called in Spanish? I've tried Google Translate, and it came up with destilados de petroleo, but no one knows what that is.

Mineral spirits is a paraffin-derived clear, transparent liquid which is a common organic solvent used in painting and decorating.

Usually sold in the Brugal Blanco bottles in the ferretia. Open the bottles and smell. If you paint you can tell the difference.

I had the same question for YEARS!
Dominicans call it "Agua Ras",not sure if I spelled "Ras" correctly, but that's how they say it.
I needed it to "Thin" polyurethane finish.

Not much difference

1. Aguarr?s (clear, more expensive, paint thinner)
2. Trementina (yellowish, cheaper, also used for cleaning)

It's the "thinner" (DIN-air) that smells like mineral spirits should and is oily to the touch.
Do not let them sell you "thinner para esmalte", that's laquer thinner, and not the same thing at all.
Aguar?s (agua-RAH) is nearly kerosene and will stink when you burn it.
