    Default What's new in Bavaro

will be arriving shortly in Punta cana. Anything new in terms of construction or infrastructure in the area? We always seem to notice improvements when we return like sidewalks and lighting. Any new restaurants/ shopping etc.....thanks

    Feliz Navidad!!!

How long is it since you last visited?

The last year has seen the arrival of a massive shopping centre - San Juan, near Coco Loco crossing, two large supermarkets (Nacional in Punta Cana Village and Pola in San Juan shopping centre) new sidewalks being built along Av. Espańa, a new stretch of highway from Coco Loco towards Friusa, and the latest hot nightspot is the new Oro nightclub at the Hard Rock Hotel.

New restaurants: fast food places like Pizza Hut and Chef Pepper in San Juan
Duma (Middle Eastern) and a "Starbucks" in the Paseo San Juan next door to SJ Shopping Centre
Zen (Chinese/Asian, nothing special but not overpriced for the area) in Punta Cana Village
Serai (excellent Asian restaurant in Bávaro) has closed down
O Sole Mio in Verón and the Portuguese restaurant in PC Village have had makeovers
Balicana in Los Corales has moved from the piazzetta to the poolside area

A new airport hotel (4-Points Sheraton) is being constructed opposite the airport, due for opening late 2012
The Coral highway is due to open mid 2012 - cutting driving time to Santo Domingo to 2 hours
Lots of cultural/social activities at Cuidad Las Canas, at the entrance to Cap Cana - see East Coast Calendar sticky in the East Coast Forum
