Not quite perfect for the campo(a bigger seat would be nice or more storage), but looks like fun for us over 40 crowd. I'd like to get out in the country without needing a 4x4. About $2500 in the US.

All we need here in the DR is the "Chinese Copy" for $RD 30,000.

$2,500 US is about $RD 97,000 for that unit.

I've been looking for something like a Honda Super Cub in the US since my last trip to DR. But for the price of a knock-off, I could get a real motorcycle. It's the most popular bike in world history, and you can't get them in the US?

nice little buggy... but no room to carry the usual cargo: two water bottles, propane tank, week's worth of groceries, 3 gallons of Brugal, 2 dozen Presidente Grandes, and pair of twin chicas. (last part only for the single guys, of course.) LOL.

I currently have two scooters: a 2009 chinese 125cc scooter that has so many electrical issues every fortnight that i'm contemplating contacting Guiness World Records, and a 2011 Yamaha 125cc Fuel-Injected Zuma which, after 7 months and 10,000km, and hasn't had one single issue.

The chines scooter costs something like $45,000 new, and the Yamaha costs $125,000 new. the chinese scooter has no parts support here on this island despite being sold at nearly every single hardware store or scooter shop on the island. everytime it breaks down, we have to borrow and scavenge stuff off other scooters to get it to work again. there is not enough web pages or mainframe servers available on this planet to list all the **** that has gone wrong with this chinese scooter which has a carburator vs the fuel injected yamaha. yes, i know, the the chinese scooter only costs a fraction of the yamaha, but if today someone offered me a brand new one for free, i would say, "No thank you!" and i'm not kidding.

The yamaha, on the other hand, i can find any part for it right off Amazon.com. that's not a joke. i can have any part here withine 5 days from the US. Yamaha Zuma's are very popular in the US and Europe where they're called "BWS". Also, almost any yamaha dealership here carries most things as well.

On the yamaha, i've been averaging 85MPG to- 86MPG with two--me and my girlfriend. on the chines scooter, i average bewteen 70MPG to 75MPG.

The yamaha i took on a 512km trip tour two weeks ago with a friend on a KTM 950SM; we did some light off-roading as well. i went from Cabarete to Samana to Las Galeras, and then took dirt roads outside of Las Galeras to Playa Fronton, and then back to Samana, then Las Terrenas for the night, and then back to Cabarete the next day. the total km for the trip was 512km and i averaged 89MPG.

Is it just me or are the Honda Super Cubs ugly as sin?

I get the reliability...but damn! I see it like an ugly girl who is always around and never gets the hint

The Super Cubs have a lot going for them for toodle-ing around town and they are readily customized for being a work horse. When I see something that is obviously well designed and made to last, there is a certain kind of beauty to it. It's barely changed in over 50 years of production. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It may be the ugly girl to some, but she knows how to cook.

The only real problem with the Ruckus...or any passola-type scooter...is the small diameter wheels. They don't do well on bad roads; potholes, curbs and drainage ruts can easily crash them. That's why you see more "normal" type bikes the farther from the city you get...

Get the right tool for the job...

The Honda Cub/Super Cub is the single most produced wheeled vehicle in history. By 2008, over 60,000,000 have been produced.

Think they have the bugs worked out? :cheeky:

opppsss..... didn't mean to hit "dislike"... one too many bourbons I guess. I TOTALLY agree. Some scooters are starting to become available with larger diameter wheels.

Why aren't Super Cubs available in the US?
The were for a looooong time. My first motersickel ride...beside my Briggs & Stratton pull-cord minibike...was a Honda 50. That was (I think) 1964. You know, "you meet the nicest people on a Honda..."

Not sure when they pulled out, but I understand the Super Cubs are coming back to the USA in some iteration.

There's a Taiwan knock-off available in the US now that is essentially the same bike: SYMBA. It's pretty pricey at about $2500 considering I'd be happy with a 5-10 year-old Cub.
