From today's Sosua News:

In three weeks, five volunteers from Winnipeg, Canada, have built a comfortable house for an elderly couple. The elderly couple whose husband suffers with heart problems, until recently lived under miserable conditions. It was a shack with no running water, no electricity and no toilet. Furthermore, the man had no money for medicine for his heart disease. Five volunteers of the foundation 'Dominican Connection International' led by Walter Warkentin, built in three weeks-time, a beautiful new house just beyond Arroyo Seco (a hamlet in the district of Sos?a).

They worked there every day, assisted by five to seven Dominicans. Sunday the house was officially handed over to the happy couple. The volunteers of the foundation 'Dominican Connection International' previously built a school (for 120 pupils aged from 5 to 14 years) and a church in Arroyo Seco. They have also built a basketball court. The teachers are Dominicans who received their salary from the foundation. Pastor Hipolito Chala (everyone calls him Pastor Charlie) is in charge of the entire project. The foundation also arranges medical consults in Charamicos every two weeks in which Canadian and Dominican doctors provide free consultation and free medicines to the poor.
