Please be aware that the TEGRETOL that is being sold here in the Dominican Republic is a counterfit pharmaceutical.

The box is an exact duplicate of the manufacturer's box but the drug inside is simply a white pill with aluminum foil across the back imprinted with word Tegretol

The pills themselves are not imprinted with name of the drug as they should be .. nor in correct shape for the dosage

Tegretol - Pill Identifier | Drugs.com

I have reported this to the Policia Nacional

But anyone who uses this medication should be aware of this and bring enough with them or search for another medication.

the generic Carpazabime may or may not work for them, depending on the condition.

i am pretty sure the presentation of the drug (any drug) changes, depending on the place of the manufacture and the market is going to be sold in. also, it changes within the range of medicine itself depending on the quantity of milligrams. in addition to that the makers themselves change the presentation of medicine - both the pill and the box - quite frequently. partially because of refreshing the image and partially as a part of a policy against counterfeit medicine.
and it's no big news that fake medicine is sold in DR. newspapers run those stories often...

Drug counterfeiting is becoming a major crime problem worldwide and the counterfeits are getting so good that they can only be detected with actual chemical analysis. Viagra is one of the more common counterfeits and it can be made with just about anything, including toilet bowl cleaner to make it blue.

They have gotten to the point where they are able to fake the holograms on the boxes. Many fakes are sold online through Canadian "pharmacies" that use the good rep of the country to import the fakes from China and other countries.

Some of the worst drugs faked are anti-malarial drugs. Because they are only partially effective, the do not cure the patient but instead aid in creating drug-resistance so that genuine drugs are losing their efficacy.

Any drug can be counterfeited. 89 kids in Haiti died a few years back when they were given Chinese cough syrup make with anti-freeze.

I saw 80 kids in one link and 89 in another. I'm assuming the 89 toll was more recent.

I forgot the link so I typed in "89," "kids," "cough," and "Haiti" on Google. Here is the WHO link:
89 children died in Haiti in 1995 and 30 infants died in India in 1998 due to the consumption of paracetamol cough syrup prepared with diethylene glycol (a toxic chemical used in antifreeze).

Counterfeiting drugs is nothing new. It's at the core plot line for the classic movie, The Third Man...

Welcome to:"DR1",the home of "Stream-of-Conscious" posting!
Threads here can be like the "game" we have all played,Have one person wisper something to the next, with instuctions to repeat "Exactly" what was said to the next person in the line. After a few "repeats" the "Something",bears little,or no, resemblance to the original!
But isn't it FUN?????
