Anyone knows what’s happening to the old casino and hotel in Playa Chiquita. The guy that was involved in it and also the Puerto Plata casino and resort is no longer allowed back on site. I know only recently the amount of activity has increased 10 fold on the Playa Chiquita redevelopment and it’s starting to look like it will end up being a nice complex. I think it is good news for the area and Sosua that people still find that Sosua is worth while investing in and must see something on the horizon.

It also looks like the same people who now have Playa Chiquita Casino and hotel have also bought the abandoned construction behind the Casino as they have started work now on that. It all look better for this end of town and let's hope that they bring the right sort of people when they rent them out or what ever they decide to do with them.

looks like the casino is being gutted from what I saw- they are spending a lot of money judging by the amount of workers they have there

They have also taken the plot next to the hotel and ringed it with a fence. So now it's getting bigger, building behind the casino, building in front of the casino and the land on the front right. Someone must have a good idea of what's happening to this place to invest that kind of money and expecting to get a return form it. I think the hotel has around 80 or 90 rooms and the apartment block behind the casine looks to have 20 or so apartments. I think it must have something to do with the Russians starting to drill for oil off the North Coast in which case they will do very well out of it and with the resort they have in Puerto Plata, you know that they know something for the better I hope.

Sorry to ask - as i dont live there, but will be visiting in a couple of weeks?

Is the Casino currently closed?

sadly - part of our reason to visit Sosua is to see Sara on the Roulette tables and see how long 1000 pesos lasts.

I imagine the old casino is closed as there was a big pile of soil in the entrance, the other one will be open

The casino is still open and running normal but, you have to use the side entrance near the car park. They have removed the old bar and taken the wall out into the old disco area and remodeling the whole unused side. So don't worry as I am sure they will be only to willing the lighten you of your RD$1000
