just came back from 2 months stay in La Romana and want to sent a package with clothing to a local friend. no big value in it or expensive items... have heard all the horror stories about lost packages vial regular post office mail.

cannot spent the horrendous UPS prices..

is this carrier reliable?
http://secure2.transexpress.com/usa/frontpage
or any other advice?

again: no valuables in the box, just used clothing and shoes

Actually, post office service now pretty good, at least from here if you send it express mail. Priority mail from the US probably a good way to send things here.

I am not familiar with the carrier. What do they charge to bring your package here?

Be careful sending packages through Transexpress/Vimenica. They charge you the higher of the weight or the box dimensions.
I bought a folding vinyl keyboard from Amazon. Shipping weight 1.2 lbs. Amazon put it in a huge box. Transexpress added the box dimensions up and said the volumetric weight was 23 lbs and charged me $39 USD. When I questioned them about the charge they said that's what the airline charges them. No more amazon orders for me.
