The DR really loves AUDI and FIAT appears to be a little jealous.

Well, well...

Apparently the DR ranks first in sales growth for Audi in all of Latin America (and probably the whole hemisphere too since, well, I highly doubt sales grew as fast in the US and Canada). Over 200% growth in one year. Not bad, not bad at all. (RD lidera ventas de Audi en la regi?n y crece 203% - listindiario.com)

On another hand, Fiat is now offering their 500 and Punto 2012 models. If you thought seeing a Mini on Dominican streets was a little funny, this should definitely be much more interesting.

Behold the 500:

Yes, I know. Two words: Remote Control :cheeky:

I saw a 500 here the other day. Charming little car, but like my beloved Mini it is not practical for all the potholes and speedbumps.

Wow love the Fiat! But if you consider the roads here, an SUV with good suspension etc is really the only option to drive here...

Also be careful with jumping to conclusions on the '% of growth' statistic, it doesn't really say much... they could have had 10 sales year 1, and 33 year 2, to achieve 230% growth. My guess is Mexico or Brazil are #1 sales markets for these types of cars when population is considered...

191 AUDIs were sold last year. Considering the size of the market, its not a small amount. Assuming an average sales value of US$50,000 per vehicle, we're talking US$9.6 million in sales for a Caribbean market. Not bad. Actual sales figures was probably much higher than that.

Total number of registered vehicles (cars and SUVs only), as of 2011:

AUDI 1,942 cars / 448 suvs

FIAT 5,414 cars

A few other models, just for the heck of it:

Mercedes Benz 11,084 cars / 1,985 suvs

Porsche 551 cars / 768 suvs

BMW 7,114 cars / 2,622 suvs

Volkswagen 19,662 cars / 923 suvs

Lexus 1,677 cars / 3,826 suvs

Jaguar 688 cars

For tiny DR, that's quite a lot.
