Excellent documentary. True, sad, desperate, enlightening, depressing and hopeful - everyone on the board who understands Spanish should watch it.

Really enjoyed it. It is very sad and though in previous years I have supported the PLD party (Mainly when Juan Bosch was in command), I agree that the current PLD has way too much power.

Not only Professor Bosch, but even "Leonel" in his first term as well.
Not THIS TIME!!!He is spending like a "Drunken Sailor",and, being a former "Sailor",I KNOW!!!
Problem is,"It's not his MONEY!!!
"Power Corrupts,Absolute Power corrupt,ABSOLUTELY!!!!"
I guess they were right!
And anyone who thinks that "Danilo" will be calling the "Shots" if he is elected, just look to Russia, and Putin.
That 's just one of the problems when the same person controls a government for many years.
At least "GOD" likes "Term Limits!"..."Bye Bye Hugo!!!"

Snap, I forgot that there are english-only members on the board. My apologies.

If you have facebook, post it on your wall or suggest it to folks, especially those that have a very loose grasp on matters pertaining to DR but have strong opinions (we all know the type).

Somehow the creators of the film ‘forgot’ to show this too (World Bank methodology used).

So sad. I understand that this sort of ruins the socialists goals, but it is what it is. Even Narciso Isa Conde was given attention in that film, despite he being a well known socialist, communist and even has connections and supports the FARCs guerrilla movement in Colombia. Hubieres even made the cut, that bastard Taliban that controls the FENATRANO buses and constantly makes surprise strikes, making life for the average Dominican harder than it should be; and he’s a Marxist too (way too many times he has appeared with hats of Che Guevara to leave this in doubt).

And now they are complaining that the PLD dominates the Senate, the Deputies Chamber, the Judicial system and the Presidency, and will most likely maintain influence in the Presidency after the elections in May. To compare that to the power that was amassed by Trujillo and even Balaguer during his initial year’s post-Trujillo, is a very sick joke! Unlike Trujillo, it was the PEOPLE that voted a PLD-majority Senate. It was the PEOPLE that voted a PLD-majority Chamber of Deputies. It was the PEOPLE that voted a PLD Presidency. That’s extremely different from what happened either during Trujillo or the initial years of Balaguer.

What exactly do they want to happen? For the will of the people to now be conveniently ignored? That’s a little hypocritical from a group that has been claiming for decades that the will of the people should not be violated.

Guess what? That principle should stand even when it goes against their socialist interests!

But, these are the same people that would support a dictatorship a la Fidel Castro and Hugo Ch?vez. So I guess hypocrisy is just too natural for them.

And in the end, they give the punch line: Be a good REVOLUTIONARY. Ha ha, all we need is a message from Mi Comandante.

They know the PRD is going nowhere and their desperation is beginning to show!

They even had the nerve to claim that social indicators today are the same as those from 25 years ago, when a simple comparison from any source clearly shows that life expectancy, infant mortality, etc has improved.

Their desperation is beginning to show!

Hope

I had lost all hope.
After having seen the video (twice), at least, I know there are people out there who seem to care about this beautiful country...

Hey, who peed in your bean bowl...........Im trying to learn `the damn language`, now if they would just slow down, I might be able to get some of it.

YS good for you. However I know manyyyyy expats and not only in the DR, I'm talking about all over Latin America who have been living in a Spanish country for years and hardly speak it. They don't even try to learn it properly.
By the way I don't like beans, they give me gas so pi$$ all you want ;)

Somehow the creators of the film ‘forgot’ to show this too.

For a moment I thought this would be followed by more of Don Potemkin's mall photos..... :tired:

(...) And in the end, they give the punch line: Be a good REVOLUTIONARY. Ha ha, all we need is a message from Mi Comandante.

You are mainly attacking people and political systems.
You have, however, not understood the message of this film.

Limited Freedom for Acting

Caring is not the problem, doing something about is.

The persons who spoke up in the film are already doing as much as they possibly can (i. e. what the political environment allows them to do).

The people are also doing what they can... (i.e. what the people in power allow them to do).

The degree of freedom is limited, as seen in the film.

The message of the film is to be lauded. It is attacking the two-party hegemony, not just the PLD government.

However, I do agree with NALS that Isa Conde should not have been included, mainly for his irrelevance.

Putting Hubieres there was a much bigger mistake. As one of the commentators on the YouTube video pointed out - he is guilty of exactly what the film is supposedly criticising: of pretending to be fighting for the benefit of the people while really just amassing power and wealth for himself and his cronies.
