    Default US Embassy Security Alert

This message is to inform U.S. citizens traveling or residing in the Dominican Republic that a large
political rally is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 17, starting at around 3:30pm. The
rally is planned to take place on Avenida Maximo Gomez, around the intersections of Avenida John F.
Kennedy and Avenida Maximo Gomez and and on Avenida 27th of February and Avenida Maximo Gomez. We remind U.S. citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational
and possibly escalate into violence. U.S. citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of
demonstrations if possible, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any demonstrations. U.S. citizens should stay current with media coverage of local events and be aware of their surroundings at all times. </pre>

i bet they send a similar one for an even larger political rally tomorrow

.....and whilst they probably won't send one on saturday, they probably should.
never know what unhappy chelsea fans will get up to, even in santo domingo.

Wish that they had mentioned the one on the Malecon, and everything between there and Kennedy. Took me 2hr to get home in Ciudad Nueva. Helicopter would have made great sense.

Word around town is The Russians are taking over the country, so get used to Russian Standard instead of Barcelo Platino Pichardo.
