Now if they only fixed the roads from Cotui - SFM and Cotui - Jima, etc...and of course the bridge over Yuna which I'm surprised is still standing I would be a happy camper.

Like most Dominican Roads there is no quality control, the "contractor" does not use proper materials and skims the $$$$$$. I hope its not the case anymore.

I remember one road from near the STI airport going towards Licey. They had to redo the road every two years!

Pichardo, Do you think these roads will last? Thanks for showing me how to post a picture.

Yup! Only in the DR contractors skim and use inferior materials to steal money...

They had to redo the road due to the heavy usage of trucks in the area, which were eating away at the asphalt like ants on prey.

As far as roads that need upgrades and repair? There are tons of them around the country and little money to do so as people pay little to no property taxes or the fees to renew your registration is a drop in the bucket.

We need to tax per mile in the DR. Those that cause the most tear and wear should pay the most of it!

More so to trucks and large heavier vehicles...

Ah! On second thought NOT!

The bridge above can take at least a decade more of damage before it becomes a danger for traffic. The concrete skirts are not what support the load or keeps the bridge erect, they are used to offer other things like buffers and tensile strength for the pylons.

The need and urgency for the works is decided by the core of engineers of MOPC and OPRET.

Only new roads or large projects are decided at the political levels, as elsewhere in the known world...

I doubt it, but It will have to keep going until it falls and then it will probably take about two years to get fixed, like the one on Camu river. I believe the "life" of this bridge was supposed to be 20-30 years. It's already about 40 years old or more.

Great photo this road made trip time double because of its condition. My wife?s family is from Palo Verde some road work there also was completed, but like everything the selection of which roads seems to be the issue. Would have been a hard decision for me there all bad??

No one can deny that the quality and number of roads has increased in the last 15 years. They will continue to get better over time in the DR.
Road construction is never finished. Over the years the roads fall apart for many diferent reasons. I kind of look at it as a positive thing. It means job security for constrution workers. ... and of course..... pay offs/ contracts for those with the right connections in ANY country.
My father worked road construction for many a year. Can you say mafia controlled? :cross-eye
