Las Terrenas
We are building a home in Las Terrenas and was wondering where to buy higher-end bathroom accessories and kitchen accessories other than EMB store in LT that sells mainly appliances?

We understand IKEA< 2 hours south in Santo Domingo may have some good options for the mundane things. (yes, we go to IKEA in SoCal, but only if we are desperate)

Where on earth can we get 2 new towel warmers? We would like to have 1 installed in each full bathroom wall of the villa.
Towel Warmers, Bath - Bed Bath & Beyond

Also, good quality ceiling fans not some cheap junk. Ceiling fans that actually work well, are quiet, and look great.

Thank you!:ninja:

For the life of me I cannot see what use you could possible have for Towel Warmers? In the tropics???

Ceiling fans. You can get Hunter at Ochoa or Americana and KDK at the same places. KDK seem to last a long while.

Cordially,

I've never seen towel warmers in this country. Stick them out in the sun for 5 minutes and they'll be nice and toasty.

Quick question, do you have any idea how much electricity cost's in Las Terrenas ?, at the moment it's hovering around 18 and 19 + pesos a KWH, you might think twice about the towel warmers.

Yes, I thought the DR forum board would light up with words "towel warmer!" :nervous:

Actually, they a great convenience for various reasons. They decrease humidity in a bathroom, and you can use them to not only dry your towels but other items quickly and economically. They use much less electricity than a light bulb.
Lastly, they can be a stylish addition to your bathroom.
PS > We are aware that the cost of electricity is astronomical in LT. Thus we will not have a clothes dryer installed in the home.

DR guy: what about DR Customs duty or tax having items shipped or brought in the DR?
Wondering what the tax levy would be for anything over $100.00 US?

Normally there is no duty on items below a value of 200$ (however, this amount may include shipping fees inside the US).
In LT you have a choice of 2 forwarding services (mbe, CPS).
Considering the hassle to find those ultimate towel heaters IMO you are better off buying them overseas and have them shipped here.

BTW, a towel warmer, a wet towel, naked feet on a wet floor and a Dominican electrician....
