I bought a new car 3 months ago and now read I can't bring it to the DR unless I have owned it for one year. Is there any way around this?

If you are Dominican who lives and works in the U.S then the law states that you can buy a car back to the D.R without paying any taxes on it, but the catch is you have to have owned it for at least a year. The other thing is the car can't be more than 10 years old otherwise you will pay dumping fees ( they add an extra 40% from the value of the car to determine your tax bracket).

Zulu - Is it 10 years or 5 years? There is a lot of confusion around this issue. We would certainly prefer 10 years on this side as we would prefer to ship a car over. Can you confirm the 10 year rule? Thank you so much!

I shipped a car here in May and had only owned the car for about 6 months at time of shipping. Had no problems, also I have residency.
