Why Punta Cana?? (sorry, couldn't help myself)

Basically, keep your own counsel and listen to your gut. Women are the smartest (and most annoying) humans made so use it. Don't go out alone. Don't ever leave your drink on the table unless you are there. Don't walk in dark roads or alleys alone. Don't...aw crap, pretty much the same thing you would do in NYC or Philly. Just don't be stupid.

Then...hit the beach...have fun in the clubs...visit the beautiful sites there...and enjoy yourself. You can have a blast anywhere in this country if you keep your wits about you as there is no police or social force that will protect you from your own stupidity (as there in the the US, Canada and most of Europe). Be aware, and you will have a blast.

It's a beautiful country with wonderful people (except those assh___ who seem to be in every population). Welcome!!!

Punta Cana dangers? - insanity through boredom, hope you have a job to go occupy you.
safety? - some consider the safest part of the country, no real issues if you are normal ish.

Would secret money pouches be recommended- does carrying a purse make you an easy target?
When living in a gated community would it be a good idea to get some sort of motion alarm sensors?

Everyone carries purses around here. Just don't leave it unattended, for example in a shopping cart, and you should be fine.

don't take your passport with you in a purse. if you can bear the heat do what dominicanas do: stick money and phone into the pockets of very tight jeans :)

Use your brain and you will be just fine.
Stay away from drugs, bad gringos and most important- Falling in love with the first and best dominican male who gives you sooooo much special attention.
Actually, falling in love with THE RIGHT kind of Dominican could be a fabulous experience...Unfortunately some gringas seem to have the ABSOLUTELY WORST POSSIBLE TASTE on Dominican men (yeah, even physically... AWFUL TASTE)....but beauty (or lack of) is not their problem...they seem to be fatally attracted to "low-lives", characters without a steady job (or a menial one), with minimal education, even without a steady home, etc. etc. THEY DO A HORRIBLE JOB OF CHOOSING THE DOMINICANS THEY MIX WITH...

And of course they pay for it...dearly....

Mind you, these are often college-educated women, professionals, who in their own country wouldn't even give the time of day to a man with the same characteristics as the Dominican men they befriend (they'd call them hill billies, uneducated w-trash, and what not... believe me, at home they would NEVER EVER date a man of the "stature" of the Dominican men they befriend).

Eventually they come to a place like this to... bitch about....you guessed it... ALL DOMINICAN MEN....

If they chose Dominican men with the same criteria they choose men back home, meaning finding men who are actually COMPATIBLE with them, it would be a different story... Some eventually figure it out...some NEVER EVER do...

IT IS THEIR LOUSY TASTE their problem.

Choose Dominicans as you would choose friends back home and you'll be fine...If you don't find them, then keep looking, and live without them while searching.

it's pretty safe. just as you were advised.... keep your brain in gear, keep your wits about you, and exercise the same precautions you would anywhere else in the world. If you're living in a gated community, (such as one of the "expat condo complexes", you're very safe. motion alarms??? naaaa.... purse???? hang onto it, keep it under your arm in crowds, at the supermarket, etc. secret money pouches??? isn't that what a bra is all about????? LOLOL lighten up, sweetheart... if you're this safety conscious already, you'll be fine. don't live in fear...
